Nick's Review Daredevil S2 E5 "Kinbaku"

This episode is our first introduction to Elektra. Ok sure, we saw her last episode at the end, but this is the full on Elektra siting. This episode's way of giving her the depth she needs is by using flashbacks with Matt. From the moment they met at a fancy dinner party, to them breaking into the house of the man that had Jack Murdock murdered. The point of these flashbacks are more than to introduce us to Elektra (played By Elodie Yung). They show us that deep down in her soul, she really is a cold blooded killer.

She get her biggest joys in life from taking the lives of others. Not to harp too much on the flashbacks, but they worked so well for me. They showed perfectly why her and Matt were a perfect fit. They connected on their inner demons. So much so that in the final flashback, you could just see how she beamed with pleasure as Matt ruthless beat in Roscoe Sweeny's face. With all this developing the character that is Elektra, Yung's portrayal of her is more than likely the best to date...no offense Jennifer Garner.

Her return into Matt's life was to get his help. Or at least, that is what we are made to believe. She knew that if she gave him just a bit of what was going on, that he would eventually eavesdrop on a meeting she had with the Roxxon company. In the end, it was more of a ruse to get Matt back into fighting with her, as she started a war with the Yakuza. We figured this would be the case, since we knew her blood lust from the flashbacks prior. The final scene with Matt and Elektra in her condo was a small let down, because the final confrontation with the armed Yakuza did not come at the end of the episode like previous ones before.

One more quick note about the episode. Karen's new gig as an investigator seems more her place than a law firm desk clerk. She is really good at sneaking around and getting the information she needs. It also keeps the Punisher arc still a bit open. She sneaks into his house to gather information on him, because she knows deep down that Reyes is keeping Castle's identity a secret. All this keeps his story still relevant to the show. Which of course we love, the more of The Punisher the more the better. Or at least that's what my daddy taught me.....I think.

All in all the episode really started to turn the gears on Matt's past and possible future. What other all out ninja wars does Eletkra have planned for herself and DD? Are they about to become the new power couple in the Marvel world? I am positive all these question will be answered very soon. Well maybe not the power couple thing, but surely there will be more ninjas, flip kicks, and stabby things to rock us to sleep at night.
