A few things, first: TWO FUCKING HOURS. Ubisoft’s show was two entire hours, and most of it was bullshit or long gameplay bits. Second: What wasn’t bullshit or extremely long gameplay sessions, was indeed great. They show some stellar games. Third: I loved Aisha Tyler. She is a great face for Ubi’s shows, and I hope she continues to work with them. So games…
Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Wildlands
I’ve never been keen on the Ghost Recon series, but Wildlands changed that. The game was incredibly beautiful with the Colombian landscape. In Wildlands, a Mexican drug cartel has essentially taken over Colombia with the help of corrupt government officials, and you are sent in to take down their empire. The ghosts seem to be a team of four capable soldiers, and the point of the game is stealth if you can manage. Wildlands drops you into an open world of violence and drugs, and I can’t wait to get my hands on it.
Watch Dogs 2
Sadly, Watch Dogs 2 looks like a lot of the original Watch Dogs, which I returned the day after I bought it. The game was kind of hollow. I don’t know if WD 2 will be the same, but I don’t have much hope. I want to see more before I invest my money in this lackluster series. Please Ubi, wow me. I love the idea of Watch Dogs, but the execution of WD 1 was shit.
South Park: The Fractured But Whole
South Park: The Stick of Truth was an absolute delight. I have never laughed so damn hard at a game before, and The Fracture But Whole looks deliver on the successes of its predecessor and more. Matt Stone and Trey Parker, the creators of South Park, came out and showed the new game. The combat system of the new entry is more dynamic and requires strategy. Also there is a ton of farting and any other immature and crude act you can imagine. The first game poked fun at Lord of the Ring, Game of Thrones, and the fantasy genre as a whole, and the new game rips into super hero movies and shows. I cannot wait for this game, and as a bonus if you preorder the game, you receive the Stick of Truth for free. So I have already bought my PS4 copy, and I’m driving back into the Stick of Truth this weekend.
The medieval combat game pitting knights, samurai, and Vikings against each other, For Honor, was first revealed at E3 2015 to enormous interest. Now, Ubisoft has revealed the story campaign for the game which says a cataclysm destroyed much of the world. The destruction caused these legendary warriors to clash for resources, and it would appear there is a mysterious woman involved with their centuries of combat. I need to see more from this game, but what I have seen, excites me.
Ubisoft had several other reveals including the gorgeous snowboarding game Steep, Just Dance 2017, Division updates, Grow Up (the sequel to Grow Home), Trials of the Blood Dragon, and Eagle Flight. Some of these looked mildly interesting, but I’ll wait and see.
