Tokyo RPG Factory, a branch of Square Enix, is a small studio which has dedicated itself to creating memorable JRPGs like those of our childhood.
Their first project, I am Setsuna, from all accounts is a masterful JRPG of yore. The studio blends modern technology with nostalgic elements such as the combat system from Chrono Trigger, a rich story, dungeon crawling, and upgrading you characters. The director of the project Atsushi Hashimoto hopes the game will be a success, and it will encourage more games of its kind to be born.
The game's main character is a mercenary, Endir, hired to protect the sacrifice. The snowy land of the game's setting must provide a sacrifice to a fiend to keep the peace. This time they have chosen Setsuna due to her powers of enchantment, and Endir must escort her to the far off land where the ceremony will be held. The narrative promises to be a tearjerker as well.
I grew up on games like this, and I cannot wait for this gorgeous project to come out. I am Setsuna is coming to PS4 and PC on July 19th for $39.99. If you pre-order on PSN, you get two themes and the soundtrack with the release. Keep it here at Nerd901.com for the review in the near future.
