What a time to be alive! I have always wanted a Pokemon game on my phone, and the franchise is as popular as it has been in many years. But, is this what we wanted?
The hardcore gamer in me honestly thinks the game is stupid, and rather pointless as far as games are concerned. It is a shallow experience that mixes geo-caching and trash can basketball (thanks Reddit) with a Pokemon skin.
That being said, I love this stupid game. It's addictively fun, and I love the social aspects of the game. Unless you get out into the world and explore, then you will get nothing out of this game. I have been wrapped up in some home construction, but as soon as that is finished, I'm going to many parks with my wife (who also plays) and son.
I've seen multiple stories of how people are using Pokemon Go to meet new people, see new places, and get out for some exercise. I saw a story the other day about how a guy met a woman while playing, and after some time of talking about the game he asked her out on a date. Good luck sir.
Even though Pokemon Go isn't by any means a fantastic gaming experience, I think it is creating a good social drive in people. And I know there has been several negative stories about people getting hurt, finding dead bodies, or running into cop cars while playing, but if you aren't paying attention to your surroundings then that's on you.
If you like Pokemon and want to try leaving your house, then I suggest you download the game. Catch them all if you can. Look for some of the Nerd 901 crew around Memphis, and if you know of any great spots let us know. By the way Memphians, if you need a Charmander then check Overton Park, and if you need a Pikachu, then head over to Shelby Farms.
Seriously though let me know where good Pokemon are, especially Sandshrew or Sandslash.
