Earlier today in Cologne, Germany Konami unveiled their new entry into the Metal Gear franchise, Metal Gear Survive, a four-player co-op title scheduled to launch next year for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
Metal Gear Survive picks up soon after the end of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, and the game is set in an alternate timeline caused by unexplained wormholes opening in the sky. The soldiers of Mother Base must work together in the struggle to stay alive in the harsh terrain filled with crystalline zombies. Players will combine stealth gameplay and co-oping with other players to manage and overcome threats on a massive scale.
This is the first entry into the series that does not involved Hideo Kojima, who is the father of the series, and has since moved on to form his own studio. Metal Gear Survive comes as a surprise after Konami announced that it would be focusing on mobile and slot machine games while putting console games on the backburner.
Honestly, I think this is a poor attempt by Konami to capitalize off of the Metal Gear franchise with a Left 4 Dead style game in a Metal Gear skin. This game is a bad idea, and it looks generic as hell. It makes you wonder if Konami is doing this to tarnish Kojima's legacy.
